Hello everyone! I wanted to take some time to personally thank everyone for coming to the Justin Spring Invitational. The YMCA has put a lot of effort in to this event and it looks like it should be another great competition.I competed in club for many years until I had the great opportunity to compete on the University of Illinois Men’s team starting back in 2002. When I look back at my competitive career, competing at the university level was the greatest experience of my life. The energy and intensity of an NCAA competition was something that I wanted to bring with me to elite level competitions like the Olympics. As the head coach of the University of Illinois Men’s Gymnastics Team I have tried very hard to create a fun and energetic competitive environment. I am writing this letter to try to set the tone for the JSI in a similar fashion. Let’s try to bring the same energy of the NCAA to this club meet. I want parents and coaches to feel free to scream and yell for their kid and their club. I want coaches to get fired up and have fun at this competition, and know that I’ll be there right along with everyone else trying to do the same! Not every gymnast is going to get the amazing opportunity to compete at the NCAA level, but they can get the opportunity to compete at an event with the same energy and excitement. Let’s try to make that happen at the 2011 JSI!
